Hello again!
I just wanted to share a quick and easy tutorial if you do it right the first time.
{I only say this because I didn't get it right until thefirst second third time}
So, I just gathered up a bunch of glass bottles that I had lying around. Just make sure you clean and dry them first!
I just poured a little bit of latex paint in the bottom of each glass.
You CAN water the paint down a little bit, but I found out the hard way that less water is more.
Swirl the paint around in the jar, and turn upside down so all of the excess paint drips out.
{this is where it gets a little confusing....I left mine dry upside overnight the first time, and all of the paint dripped out. So, I finally let the excess drip out and then took a blowdryer to the bottles. Worked like a charm!}
And here they are!
I'm planning on getting some pink peonies to put in them, but for staging purposes, I just stuck a piece of lavender in each bottle.
I just tinted each vase a different shade of blue/green/gray with a little bit of food coloring.
{I'm playing around with the arrangement on the mantle, so don't judge!}
Side note: how cute is that hobnail milkglass round vase? I got it at an auction (along with about 15 other pieces) for $10!

ReplyDeleteooooo those are so pretty! Can you put water in them or will that mess up the paint?
ReplyDeleteThat's a good question! I should have included that. You can't put water in them, or it will peel the paint!

Just a thought for those who want to put fresh flowers in them - if it's a wide-mouthed bottle or jar, put a smaller (and shorter) unpainted bottle inside. Fill that interior bottle with water and place your stems in that to protect your painted finish.
ReplyDeleteWhere can I buy Latex paint for these? Can you get them in small quanities so I can use muliple colors?
ReplyDeleteNevermind, I actually figured it out on my own and made some jars of my own this weekend! Thanks for the inspiration Shannon! I updated my blog with the project and referenced you :)
