So keeping up with the theme of "progress" in my house, I decided that I should share my living room with you. I am horrible, I repeat, HORRIBLE at taking "before" pictures, so I had to scour my Facebook page to see if I could find any pictures of my living room in the background. This is the best I could come up with (please excuse the decor and the clothing choices, it was our annual ugly Christmas sweater party).
This was actually after we had changed around our living room several times before this. When our house was broken into, my camera and all of my old pictures were stolen. That's probably a good thing, though, so I could spare you from the awful furniture choices and the wall color that resembled a mud puddle.
Anyway, here is a BEFORE:
I hated the layout; you had to walk all the way around the couch and the coffee table to get into the house. Our TV had to be mounted on that wall because that is where the cable hookup was. I wanted to mount it on the opposite wall, and I finally talked Husband into it. So here it is now, with a new layout, new couch, and some other new additions.
It is far from finished, but it's slowly getting there.
Here is another before photo:
And now, from the same angle:
We painted the walls a light gray (which was difficult because this room is two stories tall. Ouch).
I framed a giant vintage map of Paris, and the couch is a Craigslist find (is it even possible to take a flattering picture of a couch? Seriously).
I added this Lack shelf that I found in Ikea's As-Is section for $3.99, and I put a bunch of crap on it. It's scientific, folks.
Now that the TV is mounted on this wall, and I finally have a TV stand that I like (that needs to be painted), I'm debating on painting this half wall a bold pattern.I love my striped hallway so much that I wonder if it's too much to do it again here...
See, it needs something, right?
The rugs are from Ikea, and the side chairs are from Ashley Furniture (which we got with a Groupon for a ridiculously good deal).
Here's what I want to do in the space:
I've been trying to incorporate some pink in the space, and I just found these two pillows that I'm obsessed with. They match my Paris print perfectly!
I can't wait to paint this sucker gold. I already bought the Martha Stewart paint, and now I just need to sit down and do it!
And, as always, Miss Kitty is supervising.
To-do list:
new curtains (they are the same ones I have in my dining room)
paint coffee table
paint TV stand
more wall art
accent wall
hide TV chords
new loveseat/ bench/ sofette for in front of window
So what do you think of my changes so far? Do you like the lighter and brighter colors, or did you prefer the darker more tan-based colors?

I love the idea of painting the table gold!!! And the changes are fantastic! I wish we had the money to buy new furniture but right now we're living with what we have in our living room. We don't use it much but I'm seriously thinking some sort of cover for all of the furniture so I'm done with the dark green for good! Well that is until I paint my kitchen's trim that is currently avocado green. Yes, green. I did NOT do it though!
ReplyDeleteI love avocados, but I'm not sure how much I like the color for trim! :) we have bought 90% of our furniture on Craigslist. The blue couch was $100! We just sell our old set, and buy something else. It's like trading out furniture, again and again! This is the fifth couch we'be had in three years!
DeleteCute kitty by the way!!! I love torties!
ReplyDeleteI love the airier feel with the PITA grey walls. I may have a wee suggestion for that accent wall....love what this gal did here.

ReplyDeleteThank you! The large embroidered floral one on the couch is from a vendor at a local antique mall (if you are in the NC area, I can tell you where it is!), and all of the other pillows are from HomeGoods!
DeleteHi. I am looking for the exact same Ashley furniture sets to complete my dining set, I only need 2 chairs. Can you tell me where you found these?
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Hi Danielle! I just found your e-mail in my Spam folder for some reason...so sorry! I'm actually getting rid of the two chairs you were interested in (from Ashley Furniture). I'll send you an e-mail ASAP!
