Do you ever notice the parallels between getting dressed and decorating a room? I always start with a good base in either- a good colored pant, or a large neutral couch, for example- and build off of that. I have always loved fashion, but I wholeheartedly blame my increased obsession to Pinterest. Seriously! There is so much beautiful inspiration out there, for both your home AND your closet!
So I thought I'd start a little series of my own that I've seen elsewhere in Blogland. The only difference with this series is that I'm only going get inspiration from outfits that I've actually worn! It helps me "shop my closet", so to speak...it helps me pair things together that I might not have thought of before, therefore spending less money shopping (kind of). You're welcome, Husband! :) So I own every piece to these outfits that you see.
I wore this out the other day for a casual dinner date with my better half. What I think is so important to remember about translating an outfit to a room is that it is SO MUCH MORE than just matching up colors. A room, just like an outfit, is supposed to evoke a certain feeling- casual, professional, cozy, romantic, etc.- and it's so important to incorporate that feeling into the room that you're creating!
With this outfit, I wore my hair in a loose topknot (which I do far too much under the rouse of "fashion"...really, it's just messy hair. Ha!). The messy bun gave the outfit a nice relaxed but chic feeling that I tried to mimic in the room!
skinnies: Old Navy // shirt: Old Navy // necklace: Forever 21 // scarf: The Limited // gladiator sandals: Target // purse: Marc by Marc Jacobs here // watch: Michael Kors
I incorporated the ever popular Beni Moroccan shag rug to mimic the feel of the topknot, and give the room a little casual flair. I built on the couch just like a built on the coral skinnies the in outfit picture. The gold accessories not only work with the colors of the room, but mimic the gold jewelry I wore!
So what do you think? Would you think about pairing coral and lavender together?
I hope you all had a great weekend...look for some house updates and some fashion DIY tutorials this week!
