Hello lovelies!
Over the past few months, I've come much closer to calling things "done" in the house. Although I'm pretty sure that ever being truly finished is pretty much an unobtainable thought, I like to tell myself otherwise. But for now, I'm pretty close to being "done" (or my version of it) in the foyer.
If you have followed me for a long time, you might remember this little gem from almost two years ago (one of my very first posts!) I decorated the foyer with clearance finds and a few DIYs. I like to think I've come a long way since then.
Here is the (waaaaay) before:
Remember my entry table dilemma? This space is SMALL, and I'm still liking the Target clearance table that I found at Goodwill. We still need to install chair rail around the foyer and up the stairs, but that has been stalled for the moment while I attempt to convince my husband that a chunky board and batten treatment would look better.
The painting covers an oddly-placed light switch that controls the outdoor lights, which we never turn off, so it works perfectly in this space. I'm thinking of possibly putting it on hinges, but then the lamp would be in the way...
The rug was a $10 TJ Maxx find, and it works perfectly with the painting.
As far as accessories go, the lamp was a $2 Goodwill find, and I just bought a new shade at Target. I'm thinking about trimming it out with greek key ribbon.
I bought this horse at the Georgetown Flea Market. Unfortunately, as soon as I got him home, I dropped him and broke half of his face off. I was going to glue it back on, but I got lazy, so I sanded the rest of him down to make it "blend in", so to speak. I think it makes him unique and aged-looking...am I right, or totally crazy?
I added a West Elm tray and bowl for keys and my DIY gold-dipped vase for good measure.
On the bottom shelf, I added a lucite tray from the Container Store, a stack of books, and my Foo dogs.
I'm planning on painting the back side of my door a high-gloss black...what do you think?
So what do you think of the latest update? Should this be the end? Please say yes.

Isn't it so cool to be able to look back and document the evolution of your style? I think it looks great, and I vote black door!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Kristen! It's kind of embarrassing to look back at old decor...but at least I'm growing! :)
DeleteIt looks so lovely! I'm totally loving the high gloss black back of the door idea, and I'm thinking of doing it to my front door too. Can't wait to see how yours turns out.
ReplyDeleteAwesome! I'd love to see how yours turns out as well!
DeleteBeautiful interiors!

Hi Shannon,
ReplyDeleteI'm visiting from The Shabby Nest Frugal Friday. I love what you've done with your mini-foyer (rather like mine). I think gloss black on the door would be fabulous, really eye-catching. The only other thing I would, personally, add, after painting the inside door would be the other half of poor horsey's face! Sand it down a wee bit on the outer edges, not the jagged edge that cracked off when you dropped him or her, and then Superglue it on. You may choose to leave the thin crack line exposed, or put some acrylic paint over it in a suitably subdued color. I love that horsey, by the way, it just adds so much! What a wonderful body shape it has. My plea is to restore Horsey's face as best you can. He or she will bless you for it :)
Hi Jan, welcome! I think you're right about the horse...now I just need to find the other half of his face ;) I think the exposed crack (that sounds bad...) would look great after I glue it on! Poor horse has been through a lot.
